LiDAR Collection and Processing

To support the demand for high quality surface elevation data, MJ Harden collects LiDAR data with its Optech Gemini ALTM sensor. The system has variable pulse rates, swath widths and scan rates which allow the sensor to adapt to varying topography, land cover, and project size and shape. The increased pulse rate of the Gemini greatly improves the efficiency of the ALTM by providing greater geographic area coverage while maintaining high point density.


Corridor Management Services Image Whether routing for new lines or maintaining existing lines, LiDAR is an effective tool in the realm of geospatial data for corridor management. LiDAR data provides accurate elevation values for features within a corridor such as vegetation, structures, and the bare earth surface. A wealth of critical information can be derived from these high-density data sets with the right tools and expertise.

Our expertise provides clients with a complete analytical solution and documentation to support their corridor management activities. Identifying potential hazards and impact areas helps to streamline maintenance activities, saving both time and money. This analysis identifies current "danger trees" as well as future vegetation encroachment.

Advanced Aerial Imaging

MJ Harden utilizes the most advanced aerial imaging technology commercially available, the Digital Mapping Camera (DMC®). The DMC simultaneously capture multi-spectral (panchromatic, natural color and color infrared) for spectacular results. MJ Harden's DMC captures high-quality, 12-bit imagery which allows for greater color depth than traditional film cameras. This technology also allow for imagery to be collected with ground resolutions as small as 1½" per image pixel. This superior imagery, combined with a fully digital mapping operation, yields mapping results with accuracy and visual clarity well beyond those produced using traditional aerial photography methods.

Photogrammetric Mapping

From a foundation of superb digital aerial imagery, MJ Harden produces a variety of GIS-ready map products. With over 50 years of experience in mapping, our tradition of excellence is reinforced with the latest in photogrammetric technology and methodology. The results are evident in the many longstanding relationships we maintain with our customers throughout North America.


  • Orthophotos - Aerial imagery that has been horizontally corrected to remove distortions caused by the terrain and the angle of view.
  • Planimetric Maps - Vector-based linework overlaying a photo image landbase to display the shape of features on the earth's surface (natural and/or man-made), such as structures, roads, bodies of water, etc.
  • Topographic Maps - Vector-based contour linework overlaying a photo image landbase to represent the elevation of the earth's surface.
